Dr. A,E. Daniel, M.D. specializes in the forensic application of his clinical expertise to issues involving civil, criminal, and correctional matters. Board Certified in Adult, Child and Forensic Psychiatry, Dr. Daniel is Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Missouri and a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He served as Associate Editor of Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law and is reviewer for the Journal of Correctional Health Care.
Practicing Forensic Psychiatry for over 30 years, Dr. Daniel has evaluated close to 4,500 patients involved in civil, criminal, child custody and correctional matters and has testified more than 350 times on the forensic issues involved, in both state and federal courts.
Dr. Daniel’s considerable expertise in Clinical and Administrative aspects of psychiatry and particularly Correctional Mental Health and Psychiatry stems from a solid base of experience.
As Director, by contract of Psychiatric Services for the Missouri Department of Corrections between May 2001 and June 2007, he directed and managed psychiatric services for over 25,000 offenders in 21 correctional centers. Additionally, he was directly involved in mental health services including crisis intervention, group and individual therapy, suicide risk assessment and all aspects of multidisciplinary treatment of mentally ill offenders.
Dr. Daniel is a known expert in Suicide Risk and Suicide Prevention in jails and prisons.
As a member of the Taskforce under International Association of Suicide Prevention (IASP), Dr. Daniel was involved with the recent WHO Resource Guide and has presented on suicide prevention strategies at both national and international conferences levels. He has published several articles on suicide prevention in jails and prisons.
Dr. Daniel, with extensive experience in Correctional Mental Health and Correctional Psychiatry, has served as an expert consultant and as an expert witness in over 20 suicide related litigations.
